Stephen moved to Bridport a year ago and fell in love with the area. He has produced a wonderful tribute and we look forward to his future work. Bridport has some amazing stars and we think he is one in the making.

The Arts Centre has recently become involved with the Independent film chain – Curzon Cinema as part of it’s new digital network. Curzon specializes in independent, World and European film and the forthcoming programme promises to be an exciting one, complimenting the existing programme of the Bridport Film Society.

Curzon films are shown weekly on Thursdays at 1.30pm & 7.30pm and Sundays at 3pm.

Former Olympian Shirley Parker from Burton Bradstock will be encouraging villagers and holiday makers to line the route on the day. Mrs Parker, represented Great Britain at the Olympics in Rome, 1960 and Tokyo, 1964 and is now Chairman and Coach at the West Dorset Fencing Club.

Bridport will join in with the festivities with live music and a party atmosphere in the town centre.

Bridport welcomes,  Claire Tomalin who will be discussing her biography Charles Dickens: A life at The Bull Hotel. Victoria Hislop will be in conversation with Sally Laverack at the Electric Palace about her new novel The Thread.

Enjoy a light lunch at The Riverside Restaurant with Valentine Warner who will be talking about his latest food book The Good Table.  Poet Christopher Reid will be reading a selection of poetry from A Scattering, winner of the 2009 Costa Book of the year award at Kitson and Trotman. Alan Titsmarsh will be talking to Susannah Simons at The Electric Palace about his latest novel The Haunting.

Abbotsbury Gardens were first established in 1765 as a kitchen garden for the First Countess of Ilchester. The gardens now extend to over 20 acres and are filled with rare and exotic plants introduced by descendants of the Ilchester family. The Gardens are world famous it’s Camellia groves and Magnolias and also has notable Rhododendron and Hydrangea collections.

The Gardens are floodlit from dusk until 8.30pm.

Over 50 local food producers from Dorset and the surrounding counties will gather to promote a wonderful array of their wares. The event has grown over the years and is now widely acknowledged as a top destination for foodies.  It has been listed in The Times and The Independent as ‘One of the best food fairs of the year’.

In addition to the wide range of food and drink produce available to try and buy there will also be cookery demonstrations and workshops with some of the country’s top chefs, including Valentine Warner, Lesley Waters, Mat Follas, Gill Meller and Marcus Verberne. Aidan Chapman from the Phoenix Bakery in Weymouth, will be running a children’s bread-making workshop.

Children can also take part in kite making activities, story telling, cake decorating, chocolate making workshops and hands-on cookery classes.

Grown ups can enjoy specialist beer tastings and a selection of local cheeses with Hall and Woodehouse Beer, hosted by Charles Turnbull. There are also Aga demonstrations by food writer and Chef, James Mcintosh.

The Hive Beach Cafe will be at Parnham House again this year with our Champagne and Oyster Bar, serving  grilled fish, oysters, crab sandwiches and our trademark lightly spiced seafood soup.
